Some couples are meant to be together forever, and some love stories end happily. They are like fairy tales that end “happily ever after”. Such love stories are infrequent. Especially in a world like today, where every aspect of life is more materialised and commercial, having a long-lasting relationship or a healthy marriage is closer to a dream.
But do you know that there are such love stories that last forever and end on a happy note?
Here is one such fairy tale marriage of a wonderful husband and wife, ages 99 and 100 years.
These two love birds indeed have a secret to their happy marriage, which is that they are 75 years old. Hazel and Norman Bollinger live in Minnesota and will soon celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary this June. The story about their marriage is very inspiring and unique. They met in 1945, and this long-lasting relationship is a true blessing. To everyone who shares our lives with a partner, this fantastic couple has valuable advice on making their marriage work and last for a long time.
Norman shares his side of the story and his contribution to this beautiful relationship. Being a good listener and being polite enough to admit you are wrong are two great qualities that help work out a relationship. It would be best to share your true feelings with your partner. Remember today than you. Laughing enables you to move on well with your partner. And you surely need many friends to enjoy the company of the people you love. Forgiving is another essential quality that you will always need in your relationship. It would be best to always look for positivity while moving along. Make sure not to get distracted by the opposing forces you will encounter while you go along the path of a happy relationship. All these are such good advice for Norman, the happy husband.
They both believe that God is the crucial reason for their happy relationship. They thank God every day for their happy marriage. According to them, believing and having faith in God can do miracles, and they experience it as a perfect marriage.
Hazel is already 100 years old, and Norman joined her as a centenarian in February. They met when they were just 21 years old, and they indeed have quite a bit of a love story to share with all of us.
This is an enjoyable and inspirational story to hear. According to them, four miracles have led them to this relationship and to fall in love with each other. The first incident was that Norman, a farmer in North Dakota, got time away from work to go to the wedding of his cousin Carlo, who lived in Minneapolis.
The second one was when Norman got to join the annual camp meeting at Buffalo Lake, where his cousin Carol dropped him off on his way back from the wedding. His cousin was to be ordained as a minister there, and Norman suddenly wanted to get out of the car as he was travelling his way back home.
The third was when Hazel, preparing for a trip to California, heard a nagging voice to stay home. So the next day, her minister’s wife asked Hazel to come and help at the camp as a guide at the Buffalo Lake Pavilion. And Norman was there at the same camp. Norman saw this beautiful young girl wearing a white blouse and a blue skirt. Norman said she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen.
The final miracle was when he asked her to go for a walk. Norman was at the right place. After dinner, he met Hazel with the girls. They came for water, and Norman could pump water for them. During that time, Norman was able to convey his feelings to Hazel. Finally, they were walking along the lake.
Both of them had so much in common. But what made all things work perfectly is their Christina upbringing. But they lived 500 miles away from each other. For almost four and a half years, they had a long-distance relationship. Norman flew on his long plane to see Hazel in Minneapolis.
Finally, on the 10th of June 1949, the couple married at the Christian Missionary alliance church in south Minneapolis. It was a double wedding with Hazel’s sister, Phyllis and her husband, Ken.
The love story of Hazel and Norman is genuinely inspiring. Norman had visited Hazel when she needed her most. He was by her side when Hazel broke her hip. They have lived and loved together and have made things work in the best way.
The couple had run nursing homes for some time, and after they retired from that business, Norman ran a delivery service where he worked till he was 97. Most of the time, Hazel accompanied him in his courier deliveries.
The couple is blessed with four children. Seven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren are incredible blessings. Their story tells us how blessed married life is. When two people come together with understanding, love and respect for each other, many things fall into place. However, marriage also takes a lot of effort and work to make things work amidst all the difficulties. Norman and Hazel made things work, and do not forget that God is the centre of everything.
